Epiq Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
For the Financial Year Ending December 31, 2024
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and outlines the steps taken by Epiq Systems Inc. and its subsidiaries (“Epiq” or “the Company”) to prevent modern slavery, forced labour, and human trafficking in our business and supply chains.
1. Introduction from the Board of Directors
Epiq is committed to upholding human rights and ethical business practices. We recognise the serious nature of modern slavery and human trafficking and are dedicated to identifying, preventing, and mitigating risks across our operations and supply chains. This statement has been approved by the Board and signed by Caroline Woodman, Senior Vice President and Managing Director.
2. Our Structure, Operations, and Supply Chains
Epiq is a global provider of legal services and technology, operating in 14 countries with over 5,000 employees. Our services include eDiscovery, court reporting, regulatory compliance, and legal administration. Our supply chains span North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and include technology vendors, professional services, facilities management, and recruitment agencies.
We maintain long-standing relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, and we are working to map our supply chains beyond Tier 1 to better understand potential risks.
3. Policies in Relation to Modern Slavery
Epiq has implemented the following policies to support our commitment to ethical conduct:
- Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy
- Supplier Code of Conduct
- Employee Code of Conduct
- Whistleblowing Policy
- Recruitment Policy (prohibiting worker-paid recruitment fees)
- Responsible Purchasing Practices
These policies are reviewed annually and aligned with international standards including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, OECD Due Diligence Guidance, and ILO Labour Standards.
4. Risk Assessment and Management
We assess modern slavery risks based on geography, industry, and supplier type. Our risk assessment is updated annually and overseen by our Compliance, Legal, Procurement, and HR teams. Key risk indicators include:
- Use of temporary or migrant labour
- Operations in high-risk jurisdictions
- Outsourced services such as cleaning and catering
We prioritise risks to people over reputational or financial risks and maintain a modern slavery risk register.
5. Due Diligence and Remediation
Our due diligence processes include:
- Supplier onboarding checks and contractual obligations
- Annual supplier self-assessments
- Whistleblower protections and grievance mechanisms
- Engagement with suppliers and workers to improve practices
We have not identified any confirmed cases of modern slavery in our operations or supply chains to date. However, we remain vigilant and committed to remediation should any incidents arise.
6. Training and Awareness
We provide training to employees and suppliers on recognising and responding to modern slavery risks. In 2024:
- 100% of procurement and HR staff completed targeted training
- Modern slavery awareness was included in onboarding for all new hires
- Refresher training was delivered to frontline and executive staff
Training materials are reviewed annually and tailored to roles and risk exposure.
7. Measuring Effectiveness
We assess the effectiveness of our actions through:
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including supplier compliance rates and training completion
- Internal audits and supplier assessments
- Feedback from stakeholders and workers
- Continuous improvement plans
Our goals for 2025 include expanding supply chain mapping to Tier 2, enhancing supplier engagement, and improving worker access to grievance mechanisms.
8. Further Steps
In the next reporting period, Epiq will:
- Increase transparency by publishing supplier audit outcomes
- Maintain responsible recruitment practices across all regions
- Collaborate with industry initiatives and NGOs to share best practices
- Upload this statement to the UK Modern Slavery Statement Registry
