Law Firm Combinations

Plan and deliver integrations of risk functions, including conflicts, ethical walls and compliance, and document management systems for complex law firm combinations.

Stabilize post combination operations on Day One by aligning document management systems (DMS) and enforcing ethical walls. Protect client confidentiality, preserve firm knowledge, and scale systems ready for AI.

  • Address immediate pressure on document management, access controls, data governance, knowledge sharing, and security.
  •  Surface risks early before strategy and operating model decisions are finalized.
  •  Guide pre-combination assessment, integration planning, and post- combination execution.
  •  Coordinate data, experience, knowledge, and intranet platforms to reduce disruption.
  •  Preserve institutional knowledge and provide consistent access to guidance and work product through shared systems, governance, and aligned controls.

Integration, Risk, and System Alignment

  • Assess the time entry, DMS, records, finance, risk, and related system dependencies that affect operational readiness.
  • Identify what must be addressed before close, what must be ready for Day One, and what can be sequenced later.
  • Build a practical roadmap that supports firm leadership in setting realistic expectations and avoiding unnecessary disruption.
  • Inventory and assess core firm systems, data sources, integrations, and operational dependencies.
  • Identify incompatibilities, risks, sequencing issues, and integration constraints.
  • Define pre-close, Day One, and post-close priorities through a clear assessment.
  • Align key data sources required for reporting, leadership visibility, integration tracking, and future operations.
  • Establish practical data foundations for combined firm reporting and analytics.
  • Reduce duplication, inconsistent reporting, and long-term integration cost.
  • Assess current DMS environments, designs, integrations, security models, and collaboration requirements.
  • Develop the roadmap for DMS coexistence, migration, consolidation, or longer-term transformation.
  • Enable collaboration across the combined firm while protecting client confidentiality.
  • Plan and support the integration of Intapp platforms across combining firms.
  • Design and implement information barriers that reflect regulatory, client, and ethical obligations.
  • Equip firms to enforce walls in the systems where lawyers work, including DMS and time entry.
  • Support early planning around conflicts clearance, confidentiality obligations, and ethical wall requirements.
  • Define how new and existing walls must operate across the combined firm.
  • Identify dependencies between Intapp Conflicts, Intapp Walls, Intapp Time, DMS security, client and matter data, and user access.
  • Assess records, retention, confidentiality, and information governance requirements across combining firms.
  • Identify dependencies between records, DMS, risk, and client and matter data.
